Whompin' Wednesday
Hey, I could bitch about the sudden cold snap, my friggin hay fever, Tel-#$#$%-kom, Dornat Motors who messed up my booking for my car service this morning... but for my own sanity, I'll take the Zen approach, annoy everybody I come I contact with my humming... and look forward to a bit of a flake-out in Clarens on the weekend... that drawing above started as a piece for Illustration Friday's "Run" theme and then it just mutated into ...well, that!

Toolin' Tuesday...
Yes, yes, haven't posted here for last three days... busy weekend, lots of work (nothing I can post up here though)... not to mention a series of power outages yesterday, one of which crashed my puter and wiped out my e-mail Inbox.... AAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRGH!! The data still seems to be there -- just trying to access it turns out to be a real pain in the a++!!
Frantic morning this morning -- so only a quickie doodle page from my sketchbook that I actually skribbled yesterday over my coffee, trying to shake off the stupor after a night of hayfever and alergy-induced insomnia... more AAAARRRGH!!
Hope you all have a better week than me so far!!!

Phat Phriday
And while I was waiting for the puter to do its saving thang (the photoshop file of that cover is quite a clunker...) , I doodled a few more arbitrary pirates. ARRRR! Enough said. Y'all have a lekka weekend and I'm still trying to decide if I'll drag my sorry ass over to go see Pirates of the Caribbean???

Thumpin' Thursday...
Busy but very good day today -- managed to clear the decks and spend a good set of hours on finishing off the new Madam & Eve book cover (will maybe post that tomorrow) - in the meantime above is another sketchy drawing of the weird man ... this time he's got a girlfriend!
And hey, my girlfriend Maja, who's a very very talented artist in her own right has started posting her kids illustrations on a her new blog -- go see them HERE!
She's also taking part in a group exhibition -- here's a copy of the invite she rustled up for her friends and aquaintances featuring two of the paintings to be exhibited. Good stuff, I tell ya!

I believe I can touch the sky...
Personally, hate the way the bird came out -- but work calls and I gotta live with it.
There I go compromising my artistic integrity yet again... I'm goin' to hell!! Hope the coffee's better there...
Adios -- have a lekka day, y'all.

Cold blooded old times...
It's frightingly easy to come up with creepy kids comics or TV characters... :-/

Illustration Friday: Match 2
Man oh man -- one of those Mondays where it's hitting the ground face first running... no time to breathe or blog. Spent most of the spare time on weekend making friends with HTML and Dreamweaver. Ok, still a long way off initiation into that weird cult, the web-designer and coder... but not doing so badly.
Anyway, took a second to draw up a second idea for Illustration Friday: "Match"... aaaaaaaaaand then it's back on with the ankle shackles and back to the drawing board...sigh.

Can you hear the drums, Fernando?
Saw Jason's blog about penning and inking -- picked up random old pen nib and started skribbling and unfortunately something painfully literal came out... disappointing really. Oh well, that's all for today. have a really cool weekend :-)

Busy, busy, busy morning -- so today's post will just have to be the preparatory sketch for this year's Madam & Eve book collection cover... this'll be fun to ink. ARRRRR!! :-)

Illustration Friday - Play
Done for this week's theme "Play" on a site called Illustration Friday -- thinking I might've overworked this a bit... oh well, maybe I'll have another bash at re- colouring it later.

Spring is in the... ACHOO!!
Oh great -- hayfever season has arrived in this part of the world! So, inbetween endless sniffing, sneezing, hacking, watering eyes... here's a few doodles from this morning over breakfast with a bit of colour dropped in just fer fun... a bit of "Coffee and funy nekkid loving" in first one and "A man and his bird" in second doodlette...
Other exciting event is over at the Global Comic Jam site where they are holding the 2006 CREATE-A-NEW-JAM CONTEST (and it's got nothing to do with new fruity flavours :-) ... Anyone can vote -- check the contest entries HERE, and go to VOTE here! Also anyone interested in contributing pages, please sign up for one of the stories!! On that note -- time for that coffee refill and a new batch of tissues... ACHOO!!

Back up and stumbling around...
Properly back at the drawing board after a few days of awful flu. No posting -- used every bit of spare energy and coherent moments to keep up with some of the workload... and now it's frantic two days of catching up with the rest of it, especially putting together the new Madam & Eve collection for later this year. With insane deadlines it's proven very difficult to find the quiet time to do proper work on the book's cover... very frustrating.
Anyway, managed to squeeze out a quick page this morning over coffee for FIRST CONTACT, the deathjam page I do for the Global Comic Jam -- check out the site, and vote for the new jam story to start soon.
Hey, and Mike over at Bru & Boegie coloured my drawing from earlier entries...how cool is that? Thanks Mike -- good work :-)

Doin' tha Tuesday Twostep...
Hey, I love women... can't get enough of them. But jislaaik, this Women's Day thang in the middle of the week is messing with my publishing deadlines for the M&E strips...arrgh! (practising my pirate impression there)
Ok, today's post falls into the "WTF is going on in this man's head?" category -- but then you have been warned. What, you haven't? So sorry. Damn, that means I have to add some kind of disclaimer to this blog.... I hate when that happens. Oh well, let me think about it for tomorrow :-)
A little bonus something from the archives... also in the "WTF is going on in this man's head?" category... actually been busy turning this into a painting... ok, it's been languishing half-finished in the studio and taunting me...

Some work stuff...
Here's some samples of recent work stuff -- ongoing series of cartoon strips for kids commissioned by the Department of Science and Technology promoting difference aspects of exciting science... so far it's been Science in Antarctica and Marine Sciences. Incredibly hard work to condense heaps of info into these little concise strips... and make them entertaining, concise and the info correct. Wrestling with one on Mangroves tonight... wish me luck. I do the writing and art and the brilliant research work is done by Robert Inglis of Revolutions.
Monday, Monday, Monday....
I dunno why, but lately my interent connection keeps going haywire on Sundays... so no update yesterday... just lots of time-out on my end. Before I dash off to the drawing board to pay the rent... let me throw out some more bits and pieces of Bughunters... the hard-as-nails suqad-leader Sgt Crock (who loses a body bit or appendage every mission and by the end is more byborg and spare parts than human) and the ubiquitous Lt Smith, who dies every mission -- but they get sent a new one every time (maybe clones?)

Flying Pigs VS Flying Monkeys
After some exchange ideas over at Jason's blog -- here's a quick sketch of the whacky "Flying Pigs dogfighting against Flying Monkeys" idea... well, I for one like it, but then that's just the way my head works.
Will be heading over to friends place later to watch the Springboks vs Oz rugby match... why oh why do I do that to myself?

Freezin' Friday
More cold...more deadlines... YEEHAH!! Skribbled some more monster stuff... actually based on an idea mulling through my brain -- revamp of something a few years old, called "Bughunters".. which basically follows the mis-adventures of a hapless, incompetent squad of Space Marines who are the poor shlubs who have to hunt down and destroy nasty aliens and monsters (inspired by the Marines in the 2nd ALIENS movie :-) ... expect lost of dark sick humour... oh well, back to work.

Drawing a day-- apparently not so easy after all?
Ok... here's a quickie drawing whipped up yesterday... although all good intentions of colouring the girl evaporated while I overdosed on medlemon and hot chocolate last night.
As a little bonus -- here's something a little older... actually along the lines of the animal theme, it was part of an educational poster on selective breeding -- in this case cattle.
Ok, enough of my bull... have a good day, and if you're in a cold spot, cuddle up to somebody warm :-) See ya!

In the blink of an eye...
That's it... freaky weather in Joburg today... a s***load of work... and ga-zing!!... where the hell has Tueasday just gone?? Aw hell... it's August already... WHERE did the whole year go?!! I want a refund!
Ok, hectic day.... so here's the quick late upload for today -- a bit more sketchbook loony stuff (with a bit of Wild West influence... probably from some of Jason's recent drawings...), and also a sketch which I had fun with, which will be turned into a cartoon for a magazine for the horsie crowd... of course, that is if the client says yay or neigh. (hee-hee... the cheesy pun alarm just went off :-)
